- SAIL FISHING! -

(This is WaveRider, Steve's game fishing boat!)

I wont say much, because I think these photo's can tell the story! It was F^#%ing awesome! My boss's husband operates a local fishing charter business in Broome. Where he takes clients out on his BlackWatch 40 boat to go Game fishing! I went with another girl from work and lets just say it was a day i'll never ever forget.

(My arms are absolutely burning here! Its such a thrill to push yourself to haul the sail into the boat!)

(A sail jumping such an awesome scene!)

(I absolutely love this shot! A little unfocused but still unreal!)

(Wow! I mean HELL YEAH!! Over 2m long caught on 10kg line.. )

A Big thank you to Steve and his deckie Pav for a wonderful day. www.waveriderfishing.com

- Broome Cup -

(Broome Race Course, Obviously not taken by me...)

What a day!!! Dale and I both worked in the morning... which was lucky with the Race meeting kickin off around 1pm. After sprucin ourselves up in our best gear we headed for the races... A record crowd! $10 entry and we were amongst the action of horses, bright fashion, betting stakes and the buzz of drinking a "few" beers in the sun! With the cup race just about to start we all placed our bets and tried to squeeze through the excited crowd to get a view of the race... I managed to get placed third on a horse called "Our Big Paddy" so I picked up about $25! Our friends dad had a good win with placing a large amount on "Mercedario" who came first across the finishing line. We celebrated the win with I don't know how many $80 champange bottles while the sun went down over Cable Beach! The band started up and we made our way round to the Two Up Circle to try to pick up a few extra $$. It was good fun with a huge crowd, quite an eye opener if you've never been before. The amount of money exchanging hands is amazing, with many people placing $100 notes on either heads or tails! Ernie Dingo was there and flipped a few coins which was loved by all. I ended up about $60 up. We finally decided to head off on the last bus back into Broome to Oasis (Nightclub) Fun was had by all and i'm just glad i got the Sunday off to recover....

- Farewell -

("The Crew" the last time together!)

Just recently we said goodbye to Lewis and Lizzy, Chelsey, Simon, Mark and Allan. Who all will be sadly missed. During our stay in Broome these guys were our neighbours and good friends at our Caravan Park. We hang out together every afternoon after work, jammed together, partied etc.. They're all taking the trip north to Darwin which we wish we were joining! However work commitments have kept us here. Goodluck to them all and hopefully we'll cross paths again. Thankyou for making Broome all the more enjoyable!

(Mark loading up his gear)

(Final moments to be silly together... ah the momemories!)

- Open Jam Night @ Murphy's -

(This is part of the "crew" from Our campsite in Broome L-R Lewis, Tim, Lizzy, Mark and Me)

Every Tuesday night at Murphy's, (The small Irish Bar in Broome) is open Jam night. Where talented or not so talented musicians play on stage with those like minded in front of a small crowd. Its suprising the amount of people the night draws in. Not so long ago a group of us from our campground went down. Dale had a jam on the drums, with Mark finally getting up towards the end.. Tim even suprised us by jumping up with a rap! It was a great night out. It was good to catch up with my close friends Noddy, Aaron and Daniel who had come up for the Broome Cup later in the week.

- Broome Friends, A Family -

Hey All, Well we've been in Broome a while now and I've slowly got this site up to date here is a few pics. We've got really good neighbours at camp at the moment. We get along really well and often catch up for drinks, dinner and a jam. Unfortunately they head off to Darwin this week, it'll be sad to see them go... Its been like a huge close family and I'll miss their company. Hopefully we'll catch them up later along the road. I'll get some more photo's up soon.
(This is the farewell for our German friend Penny(centered). It was quite spontaneous and a lot of fun!)
(We have been having regular beach gatherings with a fire. Here is my neighbours from camp having one of their many jam sessions. (L-R: Tim, Graham and Simon)
(Fire Twirling or Poi is a common scene on the traveling circuit. Here is one of the awesome displays from a recent party. I'm currently trying to learn.. Though I've never lit it up!!)

(This is Jamus, he's a Canadian free spirit who neighboured us at camp for 2 weeks. Very unique person who I'll remember forever, he played the bagpipes and I miss his company already!)

- Mud Crab -

If you haven’t tried it, you definitely should. Though I don’t recommend buying one… having a meal of mud crab is a more enjoyable experience if you catch one yourself, cook it up and make a complete mess devouring every last bit!

Though we unfortunately didn’t catch this one…it was just freshly caught by a man we kindly gave a lift to. (So he could fetch his car and boat trailer from another jetty) And so we cheated a little, but it still makes a good story. He gave us one of his 8 mud crabs he just caught for our trouble… Yummo!

Mud crab obviously live in the mud, especially in the mangrove systems found around Broome. They can be quite a lot bigger than this. But you have to be VERY careful of their claws. Something like that could cut your toes clean off!

You can cook mud crab a few different ways… some like chilli mud crab, but with our limited space and equipment we boiled ours. Bring a saucepan to the boil with a little salt or vinegar, pop the crab in and once back to the boil, time for 12 minutes. I’m sure this method differs greatly (which we’ve later discovered) and is usually up for discussion.

It quite a sweet meat and very filling! This one was enough for lunch for 3 people! I’d recommend everyone to try it.

- The Aussie Flag -

When we first set out on our trip a friend thought it fitting and funny to put an Aussie flag on the roof of my car… tightly fastened with sticky tape! “It better make it out of town, or I won’t be happy” he said jokingly. After our good byes, we set off on the road heading north. After a while we looked at the shadow of the car as we drove… no flag! Geez it really didn’t make it out of town!

After a few hours drive we finally arrived in Geraldton, only to discover the flag was still there!! Only a bit bent over! God we laughed... and took a few photos for our friend who had kindly made this flag our mascot for the trip! Over the next few days of travel, each time we arrived somewhere we’d check the roof and sure enough the flag was still there. Only now it was beginning to fray slightly. It has traveled from Lancelin, though Kalbarri, Shark Bay, Canarvon, Coral Bay, Exmouth and Karijini National Park up in the Pilbra of Western Australia.

Then on day 2 of our stay in Karijini… we looked up to our flag… but alas it was gone!! Only the stem it was attached to remained!! What a sad moment it was! It had travelled with us for around 1800km across Western Australia, and I never believed it would last 5km out of town back home!

Not that it really signifies anything in particular, that the flag lasted that long… but you could look at it as a symbol of our Australian spirit. It became battered and frayed from adventure and travel, the excitement of a new area but it survived long and strong. Though the flag is no more our spirit for travel lived on and we finally made it to sunny Broome. We are staying for here for a while now, but we’re definitely going to keep with our new tradition and the roof of my car will bare the Aussie flag again on the next leg of our journey.
